Here it is, Memorial Day 2021, almost an exact 50 years since I first met Rick. Let us not forget the Cold War also produced casualties and at least one was an alumni.

Neither Rick nor myself fit easily into the social hierarchy of the time and place, so it was not surprising that we became friends. We had similar musical tastes and spent many weekend nights with our kindreds at the U of U enjoying live bands or at the Salt Palace attending rock concerts. The blues-inspired rock of the day was outstanding! We would have long conversations while walking to and from these venues, while on location it was all about immersion into the music. Great times and memories. We also spent time out in the perimeter, where there are no stars.

Knowing Rick was a memorable and interesting experience that certainly enriched my life.

Thank you for your service and Ultimate Sacrifice, brother. I'll see you when they call the final muster...
